This web site displays collections of samples of human origins that are stored at either one of the three Tumor Banks
within the Cancéropôle PACA, this is a “Virtual Tumor Bank”.
Tumor banks aim at collecting samples from individuals who are either diagnosed as affected with cancers,
or who have or may be suspect of a condition that may favor the appearance of cancer.
In addition to tumor cells and tissues, tumor banks are usually organized to collect, store and distribute other types of
biological samples, including normal (peri-tumoral) tissues and blood.
These biological materials are most often obtained when caring for patients, who undergo surgical, medical or nursing
procedures for their own benefit.
The part(s) of the specimen, samples or derivatives that is(are) not used for diagnostic or therapeutic procedures,
can be secondarily requalified for scientific research, pending that a number of conditions are met, including the absence
of refusal from the person (in compliance with French regulations).
This situation is fundamentally different from that in population-based biobanks or of biomedical research, when a
collection procedure is specifically organized in order to obtain the desired specimen and samples as specified in the research protocol.
Samples that appear on this website are currently stored in the 3 institutional biobanks of the Provence Alpes Côte d’Azur Cancéropôle:
These biological resources are made available to research groups that conduct basic or translational programs in the field of oncology.
They will not be made available for projects in fields other than oncology.
